Hi,
Apologies for jumping in.
If I remember correctly, I do believe the issue occurs due to an issue related to the British English locale.
Please try changing the locale to US English and check if that may make any difference:
From your taskbar, click the Language bar and select Language Preferences.
Click Administrative Language Settings from the side panel, click System Locale and change it from English (United Kingdom) to English (United States).
Confirm and prompt and restart your PC as required, then check if you may see any difference.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Hi Betty0610
I am afraid it did not help....
if I go to Solution centre the preferences come up correctly, but when I try to print from office or other programs it reverts to the same problem.
Sorry I have taken so long replying but I've been trying all sorts of things to corect it and operating a zoom chatroom 14.5 hours a day.
Is there a way I can send you a screen shot - it is really wierd.
By the way I have 3 pcs, all managing with the same problem.

Hi again Betty0610
I 'm afraid that didn't work either..
It just printed out my serial no. and service id and finished with error code 00000000, which I assumed that meant there were no errors.
Flabbergutted..
You have a good day too.. keep safe!!!

Thank you ShiomiL that seems to have worked... Just left with a small problem of American spellings, but a small problem I can overcome.
Many thanks and please thank Betty0610 for her efforts also.
Please keep safe
