i was able to find a solution elsewhere to this issue, as a password was blocking access to that part of the menu. Pressing the bottom right of the touch screen during the initiation phase of the start up process allows for a factory reset. Crazy that this process is not available in the manual or on the support section of this website.

Hi @drpepper02,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Performing a factory reset on a printer should be done with caution, as it erases all settings and configurations. Ensure that you have backed up any important settings or information before proceeding. Here are general steps for performing a factory reset on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw.

Note: The exact steps might vary slightly depending on the firmware version of your printer. Please refer to your printer's user manual or HP's official support documentation for the most accurate and up-to-date instructions.

Access the Control Panel:

  • On the printer's control panel, locate and press the "Home" button.

Navigate to Setup Menu:

  • Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the "Setup" or "Service" menu.

Select Restore Defaults or Reset:

  • Look for an option such as "Restore Defaults," "Reset," or "Factory Reset." Select that option.

Confirm Reset:

  • You may be prompted to confirm the action. Confirm that you want to perform a factory reset.

Wait for Reset:

  • The printer will reset to its factory settings. This may take a few minutes.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • After the reset is complete, turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait and Reconnect:

  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Please note that these steps are general guidelines, and the exact steps may differ based on your printer's firmware version. If you encounter any issues or if the printer has a touchscreen interface, you might need to navigate through the menus on the touchscreen to find the reset options.

If you are uncertain or encounter difficulties, refer to the printer's user manual.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
