The privacy preference sliders in the HP Smart app are intentionally deceptive and vague. The sliders have a left or a right side. The right side will turn blue when toggled. There are no labels for which side is actually giving consent, just an implication that maybe the blue side is "on." But what is "on?" Does it turn the privacy option on or is it turning that tracker on?

This is, of course, just like any other website does this to trick users to giving up their privacy. The BIG difference is that this is an app on my machine and not a website. On the web I have additional cookie tracking plug-ins and protections, but as an app I don't have the same options.

So which is it? Is it left or right to get HP to leave my personal data alone?

Hi @jamesjordan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

Could you share an image of the screen you are referring to?

Also, refer to the document to know how HP stores your data -https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03600156

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This is the privacy settings screen within the app. The toggles on the right are what I'm wondering about. I'm assuming that they are set to "off" here, but I would like to confirm that.

Yes, they are off when you disable it.

From the screenshot, I confirm that they are off.

Thanks!

You still didn’t confirm whether Off means our privacy is off or your data collecting is off.

From the wording, it seems to me that in the left position, you are not opting in. Left would mean this feature is turned off.
