Do I have to use instant ink when I have a hp+ printer?

I don’t really understand the rules coming with the hp+ printer. Is the printer not going to work if I don’t sign up for a monthly plan? Or If I cancel after the 6 month trial period?

Instant Ink is not required as part of the HP+ service.

HP+ and Instant Ink are related in that having purchased an HP+ printer AND when you enable the HP+ service,

You have the option for an extended Trial period of the Instant Ink Print-by-Page subscription.

Yes, you can cancel Instant Ink after the Trial is concluded.

Important:  There are considerations for signing up for an Instant Ink Print-by-Page subscription, even the Trial.
