Do all HP Printers use HP Easy Scan on macOS?

Do all HP printers use HP Easy Scan on macOS? Or do some HP printer models use different software?

We upgraded to Catalina and unfortunately HP Easy Scan is not compatible. We know about the Image Capture alternative but do not like it as much.

I understand you want to use the scanning features on the printer but you do not want to use the Apple Image Capture application. May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

This would help me check if there are alternate options available for the printer you have.

Try using the HP Smart App to scan. Refer to the document HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Mac) for help.

Thank you for the suggestion, HP Smart App does work in Catalina.

It is a little slower to open compared to HP Easy Scan and we like the interface a little less, but we are glad we can use our printer and scanner with Catalina.

You will soon get to use HP Easy Scan as well. HP is working with Apple to get HP Easy Scan and Scan to computer back to full functionality as quickly as possible.

macOS 10.15.3 (released 1/28/2020) contains the fix for HP Easy Scan.  Once updated HP Easy Scan will be able to scan from the glass or the ADF as normal.

Scan to Computer is also fixed with 10.15.3.

I did notice that if the printer is in sleep mode, some times an error will be reported.  But if you wake the printer by inserting a page in the ADF or touching the screen you will be able to scan normally.
