Officejet J4680

Hi. I was searching for an answer as to why my HP Officejet J4680 no longer had the option to choose to print in Portrait or landscape (was stuck on Landscape).  After I signed into my HP account I read an answer to the identical question but different printer.  Part of the answer to the question was that the assistant asked: "Does this happens with every application used?"  I checked to see if it does and it was back on Portrait WITH THE OPTION back in place to select Landscape mode.  MY question is, Does HP implement problem solutions (running in the background) after a user signs in to their account and while they are searching for the answer?   And if not, then how did the printer settings go back to normal?  Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's back to normal, just curious how it happened since nothing I did worked.
