I have been trying to connect my HP Chromebook 14b-na0000 (2622C1AV) to my Canon MX535 printer without success. The Canon does not offer any drivers/software for the Chrome OS, as far as I can see. However my Chromebook connected easily to an HP printer without the need to download drivers etc. Both devices are on my home network.

Hi,
I suggest checking with your printer manufacturer which is more familiar with its devices capabilities and functions, this is a question for your printer manufacturer (Canon).
Generally as I can see from their support site, it seems as your printer is not supported on Chrome OS according it's manufacturer documentation:
https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/WebPortal/PTA/pta_app_models.html?app=chromeos&lng=en&type=non
