HP M452dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My M452dn printer shows up in Windows Devices and Printers twice: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 and HP Color Laserjet M452dn. This I expect because, after the initial setup, I installed the PCL 6 driver, for among other reasons, to be able to utilize USB job storage.

When I install the firmware update, I am asked to choose which printer I am updating and am given the choice between the PCL 6 and the HP Color Laserjet. I know that firmware updates apply to the hardware's software but I wonder if the update is applied differently if different drivers are present in the OS.

So, if I apply the  firmwareupdate to the PCL 6 am I covered or do I need to go back and select the HP Laserjet choice and update it as well.

Thanks.

According to HP, even though the printer shows up in Windows Devices and Printers twice (because of the different drivers), the firmware upgrade applies to any and all drivers associated with the printer,i.e., the firmware is printer and OS specific and is not dependent on the installed printer driver(s), per se.
