Does the Envy Inspire 7200 Series not print via Ethernet cord from computer?

I cannot set up my printer - didn't know it is supposed to be this difficult!  Two main questions:

1). does the printer not recognize a hotspot connection as a wi-fi option?

2)  is this printer not able to print through an ethernet/USB cord from my computer?  I am in a location that doesn't have access to wi-fi.

I did get it to print twice, however it was in black only...no color was sent through to printer.  Now I can't even get it to print at all.

A1. Normally NO, printer won't connect to phone hot spot.

A2. Cables

1.  You can use USB cable for printer to connect directly to computer
2.  Normal direct LAN cable won't work, you may be able to use crossover cable (in theory this should work, I have not tested). You have to connect to a switch or router (even not on internet).

Q2.  a). It does say USB in description of this printer, however the only cord plug-in i can find is for the Ethernet cord.... no USB outlet plug.... Help!

         b) And what is a crossover cable??  And a LAN cable?  And if we use a crossover cable, why do we need a switch (?) or router then?  I am totally confused....  If a wi-fi connection is required to use the printer, why don't they say that in the printer description, so I don't purchase it in the first place?  Are all new printers like this??  I don't have access to wi-fi where I will be using it.
