HP periodically updates printer firmware to provide ongoing print experience upgrades for its customers. In general, the updates may fix technical bugs, ensure the printers are compatible with current operating systems, improve print quality and/or improve the functionality of existing features. With hat, the best way to ensure that you are using the most appropriate driver, is to download them from HP websites

I understand  where is the problem:

when I run the executable file a message tell me that the printer must be in "ready" state,..

but mine has exceptions due to non-original toners and therefore the installation does not even start firmware.

Another window message appears, with a generic warning....

ErrorError

No messaage "installing...."  appears on the printer...

It's like a dog chasing its tail ...

please, help!!

@Zaipo2

Let us try to perform an NVRAM reset on the printer to check if that helps.

Note: This will delete all the settings/data on the printer.

I have sent you a private message with a set of instructions to perform a reset. Kindly check the same, this might help you to resolve this issue. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Let me know how it goes.

You have to do the following:
– Find on the web the following .exe file: HP_Color_LaserJet_Pro_M254_dw_Printer_series_20200612.exe (if you dont find it send me a mail and I can send it to you)
– Remove the cartidges from the printer
– In the printer setup menu, find the service menu and surf inside to set ON to downgrade, and to receive updates.
– Be sure that the printer is connected to the same network that your computer
– Run the .exe
– Reboot the printer
– Check on the printer service menu the firmware version, should say 20200612
– On the printer service menu, turn OFF all the update options
– Install the non-HP cartidges and you should be all set.
