I have a problem printing from my laptop. I can print from a smartphone but when I try and print from my laptop it says 'driver is unavailable'. In word says no printer installed . When I go on the HP Smart App it says printer ready and connected but when I go on to select to trouble shoot it says 'selected printer is detected but not installed completely on your windows system. I have gone through a number of trouble shooting recommendations - deleted, re installed etc.
On the network configuration report it says ready and connected and both printer and laptop are connected to same network. . Printer status report - all good
It is all up to date when I go on updates both windows and HP website. When I go on the diagnose and fix on the HP smart app it says "driver check issue not fixed." It had been previously working and I was able to print from laptop so not sure if a recent windows update caused an issue ?? Any ideas anyone.

@WillisJ, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Uninstall and Reinstall Printer
Remove the printer from your laptop via Control Panel > Devices and Printers and Settings > Printers & Scanners.
Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > Programs.
Restart your laptop and then reinstall the printer software from HP’s website.
Install Printer Drivers Manually
Go to HP’s support page and download the latest drivers for your printer (HP ENVY 4524).
Install the full software package, not just the basic driver.
Check for Windows Updates
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and make sure everything is up to date.
If there are optional driver updates, install them too.
Restart Print Spooler (Windows):
- Search services in the search box. Open the service menu.
- In the list, find Print Spooler.
- Right-click Print Spooler and click Restart.
- If it’s stopped, click Start instead.
- Close the window. Check if the issue persists
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
