HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm having trouble with my computer seeing my printer. The printer is connected to my Wi-Fi and is see it. I think I should eliminate the printer software and reinstall it.  I'm not sure how to do that.  The printer was working great last week and then it kept saying it was offline.  I think I must have messed something up trying to get it back.

Hi @DougTez,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is showing offline on your computer even though it’s connected to Wi-Fi. Since it was working previously, reinstalling the printer software often resolves these issues.

Remove Printer from Windows

Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.

Select the 7740 → Remove device.

Uninstall HP Software

Go to Settings → Apps → HP and uninstall all related HP printer software.

Restart the Computer & Printer

Turn both off for 30 seconds, then power back on.

Reinstall Printer Software

Download the latest full-feature driver and software from HP Support.

Run the installer and follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.

Set as Default Printer

After installation, ensure the 7740 is set as the default printer and test a print.

If the issue persists, try connecting the printer via USB temporarily to complete the software setup, then switch back to Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

@viana72, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you’re experiencing trouble connecting your printer to your devices using the HP app, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Restart Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Router: Restart your Wi-Fi router by turning it off for at least 15 seconds, then turning it back on.
  • Devices: Restart your iPad, iPhone, and Mac Mini.

2. Check Connection Status

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your devices.
  • Ensure that the wireless signal is on and that the printer is connected to the network. If your printer has a wireless light, it should be on. If it's off or flashing, the printer is not connected.

3. Re-establish the Wireless Connection

  • Printers with Touchscreen Control Panels: On the printer, navigate to Setup > Network/Wireless settings, then select the Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the steps to reconnect to your network.
  • Printers without Touchcreens: Press and hold the wireless button on your printer until it flashes, then press the WPS button on your router. Allow a few minutes for the connection to establish.

4. Check HP App

  • Ensure the HP app on your devices is updated to the latest version.
  • Enable Bluetooth when setting up using the HP app to improve detection and setup processes.

5. Re-add Printer in HP App

  • Open the HP app on your device.
  • Tap “Add Printer” on the main screen and follow the instructions to locate and reconnect your printer.

6. Check for Software and Firmware Updates

  • Check if there are any software updates available for your iOS devices or Mac Mini.
  • Visit the HP website to check for any firmware updates for your specific printer model.

7. Distance between Devices

  • Make sure the printer is within range of the wireless router signal and not placed too far away.

8. Troubleshoot Specific OS Issues

  • For iPad, iPhone: Go to Settings > Bluetooth and ensure it’s enabled. Check Wi-Fi settings and reconnect to your network if necessary.
  • For Mac Mini: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Remove the printer and add it back, ensuring it's connected to the same network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, thanks fo your reply but none of this works. It only happened since the new HP software - since then -it shows in my Mac , iPad etc ... but the only way to get it to print is to unplug the printer from the wall socket and put it back 😞 - on my Mac mini whoosh os 3m away it doesn't print at all even when I'm trying to print direclty from the HP app.

Thanks for your reply but since there are 2 issues - cartridge not recognised + printer not connecting to the internet, I've wired the printer to my Macbook to see if it would recognise it, since it didn't , I've decided to trash it and  bought another one. The problems started with the app update, I don't see how it could get fixed. Thanks anyway.
