When viewing connected devices on my computer, my printer has a driver error note on it. There is no explanation and when I select download for driver updates and select open, it just sits there and shows no activity. How do I find the right drivers, etc. to fix my issue? Troubleshooting doesn't help.

My printer is an all in one: HP Office Jet Pro 8720 but even though it is an older model (purchased in 2018) , it still works great!
It is connected via WiFi and it has been connected to my current computer since 2025.
I followed your instructions and it says it has downloaded the driver for my printer.
Thanks for your help!

Da quando ho installato la nuova stampante, HP LaserJet MFP M140w, in rete appena accendo il pc
(windows 11) ho , a video, il messaggio di errore:
Printer driver error Microsoft XPS Doc Writer&Microsoft Print to PDF Port Conflict.

Ever since I installed my new HP LaserJet MFP M140w printer on the network, I have been receiving an error message on my screen (running Windows 11) as soon as I turn on my PC:
"Printer driver error: Microsoft XPS Document Writer & Microsoft Print to PDF port conflict."
This message appears approximately every 50–60 seconds and continues for at least 40–50 minutes.
I have tried following various suggestions found online—including updating the printer's firmware—but the problem persists.
I also connected the printer to another Windows 11 PC, but the issue occurs there as well.
I look forward to your response. Best regards.

After follow some indications I found the solution asking to AI.
This was the Ai replay.
The fact that the pop-up appears at regular intervals (every 50–60 seconds) and lasts for a fixed duration (about 30 minutes) completely changes the diagnosis. This is not a hardware issue; rather, it is a loop triggered by software or a background service that launches along with Windows.
When the PC starts, a program—such as a third-party print manager, motherboard utility, office suite application, or the software for your physical printer—begins a cyclical check or attempts to send a series of "ghost" print jobs to the queue. The process fails because the ports are blocked, so it retries a minute later, continuing this cycle until it finally times out after half an hour.
To stop this loop and eliminate the pop-ups, perform the following three targeted checks:
Clear the Print Spooler folder.
Isolate startup programs ("Clean Boot").
Since the issue occurs only within the first 30 minutes after powering on the PC, the cause is an application configured to launch automatically with Windows.
1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
2. Click on the "Startup apps" tab (represented by a speedometer icon or listed on the left-hand side, depending on your version of Windows).
3. Disable non-essential software related to printers or manufacturer-specific utilities (e.g., HP Smart, Epson Monitor, Canon Quick Menu, ASUS/ASRock utilities, or third-party PDF managers like Adobe Acrobat or PDF24). Note: Do not disable your antivirus or any Microsoft services.
Check the Event Viewer (to identify the exact culprit).
In my mind the solution has been disable non-essential s/w related to printer and so on.
Thank for your Help
