Officejet pro 6830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Had to reset Windows 10 after a Blue Screen loop. All software loaded OK but could not load the Printer Software in either USB, Wireless or Ethernet.  Finally got the printer installed but driver not detected, Fax works OK.  AS soon as windows tries to load driver the USB disconnects and the HP Software can't detect.   The printer works fine on the network and I can print from other computers.    have run the HP Printer and scam doctor, trouble shooter and installation failure tool. It just downloads from HP the full software of Basic Software but then fails to detect. Turned Firewall off as well.

Any ideas?

I just tried using the IP address and as it went away to load the driver failure Windows can't install the 6830 Kernel driver as it is not compatible with the version of windows I have. Windows is bang up to date as a new version was installed yesterday. Does HP need to change its driver?

Hi @Daveyoungphotos,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues installing the printer drivers. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you.

Let's try a clean install and try. Follow the steps below:

· First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

· Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.

· Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

· Restart your computer.

· Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.

· Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

· Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".

· Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

· Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.

· Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

· Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

· Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.

· Now restart your computer again.

· Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.

· Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

· Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.

· Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

· Click on   http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL54362/bi-131207-2/OJ6830_73.exe and install the software.

· Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

If you are still facing the issues to remove the driver, then try using a 3rd party software removal applications like "Revo uninstaller" or "Wise" to completely remove the programs.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

No go I am afraid, the clean install was going well until it asked for the USB cable to be plugged in, windows installed something said is was now running then the HP software took overs and gave a big red cross at the same time as the usb disconnected itself while still attached. It sets up the fax but not the printer!

What is so strange is that it was working fine until I did a system reset! The printer is installed and working fine from my laptop

Hi @Daveyoungphotos,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you have tried clean installation and still having the error. I would suggest the next step would be to create a new user account with administrator privileges and check if that helps.

I have setup a local account and tried that, the installer finds the Networked printer but will not install it. So I still can't use it!

The printer was unable to be installed over the Network!

I am running windows defender could this be an issue?  I have turned it off and it still will not install.

I decided to bite the bullet, re set Windows, all installed fine!  No idea why but I loaded the printer as a first priority and bingo straight in.

Thanks for all your help, I certainly learnt how to clean a PC

Guess what

? it has stopped working again,  Office says no printer installed, but clicking on the icon on the desktop takes me to the printer and I can see it. I now have a networked printer and a usb printer but neither work with Office but are all selectable. Reloaded an image of the computer did not fix t, tried systems restore to an earlier point and that did not fix either. I am so close but cant get it to print!

I now believe the issue is the latest MS 10 update.  I reset the PC, everything works fine until I turned off the computer and turned it on again. Loading up dates...........configuring updates............updating please wait.  Log on screen appears and I can no longer print on the HP6830.  I have set a restore point to before that happens. But as it opens it relaunches the updates that you can't turn off.  I am now trying to uninstall all the updates from today to see if that helps!
