After a Windows 10 update (KB5015807), the printer LaserJet P1102 didn't work anymore. I tried everything, I restarted the computer and printer, removed the printer in the settings app, removed the printer in the "system control", deleted driver with printmanagement.msc / printui. When trying to reinstall the driver and setting up the printer (doesn't matter if using the Autoplay setup from the printer itself or the latest downloadable driver setup), it initially reports that the printer connection was successful, but then aborts the installation saying the driver could not be installed.

On another fresh Windows 10 x64 machine which is fully up to date with the same Windows update, where the driver was not previously installed, the setup ran flawlessly and the printer works.
I'd like to have a solution which does not include restoring my Windows installation to before the update, or reinstalling Windows completely. Thanks!

I reinstalled Windows, installed all updates (including KB5015807), then uninstalled KB5015807. After that, the printer setup finally worked.
Microsoft now has a note on their KB5015807 update page stating that they are aware of printer problems and working on a fix.

Hello @fehlicks ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.
First download only this complete package: HP LaserJet Pro P1100, P1560, P1600 Series Full Feature Software and Driver ,
1) File name: hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20180815-50157037_1.exe (157.4 MB)
Next...
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
- right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features" - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.” - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Change File-Explorer-Settings:View > Options > "Change folder and search options" > Tab "View"
- enable > Show hidden files, folders and drives
- uncheck > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- search for "HP [printer name]" and delete all this folders
- Empty the TEMP folders
A) C:\Users\[Your user account]\AppData\Local\Temp\
B) C:\Windows\Temp\ system files cannot be deleted! - Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
- Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE 1), see above.
- The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the PC again
- Now the installation is complete.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Important information:
- Change back the File Explorer settings -
- enable > Don`t show hidden files, folders or drives
- click button > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for your reply. I followed all the steps you described, unfortunately the installer still exits with "Die Druckerinstallation ist fehlgeschlagen. Es wurde kein neuer Drucker installiert." which means "The printer installation has failed. No new printer has been installed."
I think I'll have to try my luck with reinstalling Windows... 😞

I've got the same problem: after installation of KB5015807, my HP LaserJet P1102w stop working. I've tried everything but nothing, the only way to make it works is uninstall the update.
Going to printer settings, there isn't usb port (like USB001 virtual printer port).
Windows 10 Pro x64 italian
Mainboard: Asus P8H77-V
All drivers and firmware (printer, chipset, bios) are updated.

Hi,
Today the same issue was here again whereas the KB5015807 was still uninstalled.
I had to uninstall a different KB to get my printer working again : KB5016616.
'wusa /uninstall /kb:5016616' and my printer is working fine again... until the next Windows update 😞
