Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Purchased a new Envy 6052e last week.  Installed on one hp laptop running windows 10 with no problem.  Tried installing on my other HP laptop and keep getting Driver unavailable.  Had HP support on the line but they couldn't figure it out and now they won't even call me back when they said they would.  Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Hi @cdp757,

I'd like to help!

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
    • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
    • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
    • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
    • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
    • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
    • Now restart your computer again.
    • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
    • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
    • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
    • Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service

Install all the available Windows updates

If it is been a while since you updated your Windows, that is the main reason why Windows says your HP printer driver is unavailable. Here are the steps how to do a Windows Update to install all accessible operating system update.

If you are accessing Windows 10, then these steps are for you.

  1. Hit the Start menu and write an update. After that, click on the “Check for updates” option.
  2. Tap on the “Check for updates” option.
  3. After clicking on that option, Windows will install the updates automatically.
  4. When Windows completes all its updates, start your computer again and attempt to print a file to check if your printer works.

Reinstall the drivers from the Software and drivers page

If the error persists, Try installing HP Smart from the windows store.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Dear Jay_24,

sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I've been working with HP Advanced Support to no avail.  I just tried your suggestion, which I appreciate all the detail, but still no luck.  HP support wants me to completely wipe out my computer (software and data) and re-install Windows 10, but I'm not prepared to do that.  I have the printer installed on another machine (with no problem) and I was wondering if I could get the driver from the working computer and install it on my computer that says driver unavailable.  Both computers are running the save version of Windows 10

Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎4/‎7/‎2021
OS build 19042.1052
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0

Please let me know.

Thanks...

I do not believe it's a driver issue.

Try the below suggestions to set up the printer with windows drivers and let me know how this goes!

Set up a wireless or wired network printer in Windows without installing any additional drivers.

  1. Search Windows for and open Change device installation settings, and then make sure Yes (recommended) is selected.

Allowing Windows to download manufacturer drivers

  2. Place the printer near the network router.

  3. Turn on the printer and connect it to the network.

    • Printers with a control panel menu: Open the Wireless Setup Wizard from the Wireless, Settings, or Network Setup menu. Select your network name, and then enter the password to complete the connection.

    • Printers without a control panel menu: Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer until the light starts blinking. Within two minutes press and hold the WPS button on the router. The light on the printer stops flashing when the connection completes.

    • Printers being connected with an Ethernet cable: Connect the cable to the port  on the rear of the printer and to an available port on the router.

  4. Make sure your computer is connected to same network the printer is connected to.

  5. In Windows, search for and open Add a printer or scanner.

  6. Click Add a printer or scanner. Wait for Windows to locate the printer. When found, click the printer name, and then click Add device to complete the setup.

If your printer is not found, click The printer that I want isn't listed. In the Find a printer by other options window, select an option to locate and add the printer.

I was able to get to the HP list of drivers and found this driver:

HP ENVY 6000 series PCL-3

It started to install and then I got a message that said:

element not found, printer not installed.

I thought it was going to install, but no luck.

If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

Thanks again.
