Downloaded most recent printer software updates from HP. My printer model number was changed in computer control panel to HPEE5429 (HP5660) and control panel states no driver is available. My printer prints on the network from another computer. Printer prints test pages. Printer will not print from my PC.

Hi,
Please follow the steps below to resolve such an error:
**Be aware that if you have other printers installed on your PC, those will need to be reinstalled too once completing these steps.
1. Uninstall the HP Software from your PC.
2. Backup your registry prior making any registry changes:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03485724
3. Update your registry using the Reg file below (that will change some printer related policies for your PC):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/avbv56zdgwv7600/kernel.reg?dl=1
4. Right click the Start menu and select Run.
Type Services.msc and press OK.
Locate and stop the Print Spooler service
5. Browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Rename W32X86 to W32x86.old
Rename x64 to x64.old
Note: if any of these folders fail to rename reboot your PC and then Continue following the steps starting from Step 4...
6. Restart your computer.
7. Reinstall the HP Software and check for any difference
Please let me know the results,
Shlomi

Hello Bev,
Your solution came at the right time (serendipitous) for me. Apparently the 12-10-17 Windows 10 update has the 5660 printer's software screwd up; it has apparently put all kinds of hurt on my PC. For one thing, I still cannot get the HP Envy 5660 series software to download. So I had gotten everything screwed up and the printer became unusable. So fortuitously, I had a restore point about 10 days ago that fixed that. Thanks for reminding me. Making periodic restore points is a good idea.
The printer software needs to be updated (corrected) by HP. I would point out the problem with the Envy 5660 software download to HP Corporate, but they don't necessarily see all comments, here.
A click on the Thumbs Up beside Shlomil's post, as those EXPERTS spend lots of time helping folks on these forums and appreciate the KUDOS. Best of luck.
