Hi,

Please follow the below steps, assuming this is your only HP product and you don't have any other HP software, such as an HP PC or another HP printer.

If you have any other HP product than your printer, please let me know and DO NOT follow the below steps:

  • From the search bar type CMD, right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  • Copy the following command, then right-click the Command Prompt dialog and select Paste, then press Enter:
    Spoiler
    takeown /f %windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository /r /d y
    icacls "%windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository" /grant %username%:(OI)(CI)F /T
    for /d %G in ("%windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hp*") do rd /s /q "%~G"
    takeown /f %windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository /A /r /d y
  • Once the commands stop running, press enter and allow few seconds, till no more commands are executed and an empty line appears:

Now uninstall the HP software and check for any difference.

Thanks, I have not tried that yet. I do have HP stationary PC and the HP Laser Jet Printer. So two HP products.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my HP ENVY 5544 printer. I have the printer software on a HP-laptop so I have not tried your solution. How can my problem be solved?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @vikhem

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Are you trying to install the full-featured drivers from the HP Support site? Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,

I uninstalled the printer. Made sure to remove drivers but still same error. Downloaded latest driver LJM278-M281_UWWL_4_1_Full_WebPack_44.7.2712 but this package tries to uninstall any previous driver and that part fails. The  program trying to do that part needs Administrator rights it is stated and fails. I have been running the whole installation as Administrator to begin with but it still fails at this point.

Now I hope I can install original software to get my printer working again.

@Janaake

Do you have an anti-virus software installed? If yes, temporarily disable that.

Try these steps - Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed. Remove the printer driver. > Restart the computer and try downloading the printer driver again.

If the issue still persists, try creating a new user account and check -

1. Tap the Windows icon.
2. Select Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Select Family & other users.
5. Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7. Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
8. Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9. Tap the Windows icon.
10. Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11. Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

Keep me posted.
