Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to print a document in color with duplex printing.  For letter-size paper, it works fine.  When I switch to A5 paper, the front page is fine.  The back page text is inverted and mirrored line by line, while images are sliced horizontally and flipped 180 degrees.  If you could imagine taking a picture of the moon, slicing it horizontally into 20 pieces, then flipping each of those pieces upside down in a mirror, that's what you get.  The first slice would show the curve going up instead of down and this continues through the entire image.

I was able to figure this out on my own.  The correct solution is to go to the "Advanced Tab" of the printer properties and change the Print Data Optimization to, "Optimize for Text and Vector"

Hi @avxflyer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To correct the issue of duplex printing on A5 paper with text and images being reversed on your HP MFP283 printer, you can follow these steps:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Open the printer settings on your computer.
  • Ensure that the paper size is set to A5.
  • Check if the duplex printing option is enabled. If it is, try disabling it to see if it resolves the issue.

Check Printer Preferences:

  • Open the printer preferences from the printer settings.
  • Look for an option related to duplex printing.
  • If there is an option for "Flip on Long Edge" or "Flip on Short Edge," try changing it to see if it resolves the issue.

Check Printer Settings on the Printer Itself:

  • Access the printer's menu on the printer itself.
  • Look for settings related to paper size and duplex printing.
  • Ensure that the settings match the paper size (A5) and the desired duplex printing options.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer.
  • If not, download and install the latest driver from the HP website.

Print a Test Page:

  • After adjusting the settings, print a test page to check if the issue is resolved.
  • If the problem persists, try restarting the printer and your computer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the printer. In that case, consider contacting HP phone support.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
