HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a M283fdw laserjet printer with an auto duplex function. The auto duplex works fine if I am printing out a document that is multiple pages in length - e.g. if I print a 3 page document it will take one sheet of paper and print page 1 on one side, then page 2 on the reverse, then take a second sheet of paper and print page 3.

However, what I would like to do is print two copies of a single page document on either side of a sheet of paper - i.e. have the printer print page 1 (of 1) on one side of a sheet of paper, then flip the paper over and print the same thing again on the other side. So if I print 4 copies of this document it would only take 2 sheets of paper, etc.

I thought the printer would have the ability to do this, but I can't find any settings that enables it - it always uses a new sheet of paper for each copy of the document.

Obviously there are a couple of workarounds - I can use manual duplex, or I can just copy the page within the document (i.e. in a Word document with only one page I can create a second page and copy page 1 to page 2, making it technically a 2 page document and then print multiple copies of that) but I would rather just have it work as I think it should.

And I believe it should be possible - someone with a similar printer posted here a few years ago saying that if they asked for 8 copies it printed them out double sided on 4 sheets of paper, which is exactly what I want. They didn't want that, and the solution was to go to the printer settings via browser/IP address, go to System -> Page Setup and change "Duplex" to Off. I tried changing it to On but that didn't help - and as far as I know it shouldn't, as the duplex command from the PC should be overriding that setting anyway.

So is there anything I can do to get this printer to do what I want?

You need to create a 2 page document with the same content on both sides. That is the easiest way to do it. Or you can simply feed the paper through a second time.
