@utc2014,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Install the Printer and Software:

  • Make sure your printer is installed and connected to your computer (via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet).
  • Install the latest drivers from the HP website or use the CD that came with the printer.

Access Printer Settings on Your Computer:

Windows: Open the document you want to print.

  • Go to File > Print.
  • In the Print window, select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e printer.
  • Click on Printer Properties or Preferences (it might vary depending on the program).
  • Look for a setting called Duplex Printing, Double-Sided Printing, or Two-Sided Printing.
  • Select Long Edge or Short Edge depending on the type of double-sided printing you need (Long Edge is for portrait documents, Short Edge is for landscape).
  • Click OK and then Print.

Mac: Open the document you want to print.

  • Go to File > Print.
  • In the Print dialog, select Layout from the drop-down menu.
  • Look for the Two-Sided option and check the box for duplex printing.
  • Select the type of duplex printing you prefer (Long Edge or Short Edge).
  • Click Print.

Set Default Duplex Printing:

  • If you want duplex printing to be enabled by default:
    • On Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and select Printer Properties.
    • Under the Finishing or Layout tab, check Print on Both Sides or Duplex Printing.
    • Set this as the default setting.
    • On Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click on Options & Supplies to enable duplex printing as the default.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
