Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a 62 XL 2 pack from Sam's Club when I bought my printer a couple years ago. My setup cartridge has basically run dry, and I attempted to install the new 62XL black ink. The printer won't recognize it. I have tried everything including: restarting the printer, completely hard resetting it to out-of-the-box condition, installing all the latest drivers and firmware, and contacting HP support. Nothing. I cannot use my printer for anything, and I am wary of buying another ink cartridge if the same thing is just going to happen (aside from it being $50 down the drain).

What can I do?

Hi @DreddThis

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "Missing black" issue.

To better assist you -

1) Does the copy come out the same way?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?

While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -Press and hold the Start Copy Color button on the printer control panel for 3 seconds to print a Print Quality Diagnostic page.

Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

You may also refer to this document with steps to fix " Missing black" issue applicable for your printer -  Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
