Is there an EOL list for LaserJet printer firmware?

Consider two printers:  m603xh and m712.

The latest firmware for the m603xh is Future Smart Bundle 3.9.12 dated Jan 31, 2023, but

for the m712, the latest is 3.9.16 dated Jan 12, 2025 and noted in a recent security bulletin:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_11953771-11953793-16/hpsbpi04007

This suggests that the m603xh is no longer receiving firmware updates and may be

vulnerable to the issue listed in the bulletin.

Where would I look to find out if a LJ printer is EOL for firmware updates?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers

Current replacement for the 603 series would be either the M610/11/12 series or the E601xx series. These are virtually identical hardware, the difference is the E series products are managed devices and only available from select HP partners. They are running FS5 so support will be much longer term. The 11x17 printers are trickier as there is no direct replacement in the current HP lineup. The assumption that HP is making that people using 11x17 are more likely to want color or Multifunction devices.

HP does not publish a public list of EOL dates on printers.  I can confirm that the 603 series is considered EOL but that does not always mean that firmware will not be released, especially in relation to devices using FutureSmart firmware because they all use the same basic core. Firmware is also often staggered so the 603 firmware may still be released, but in general HP expects users will be updating these machines to newer models. You could mitigate your risk by putting the printers on a separate Vlan that is isolated.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.  It is much appreciated.

I have many older printers that are restricted and that works fine, but there

are also printers required to be accessible from networks I do not control

so it's prudent for those  to be in support.

Since there is no way to know when a printer will go out of firmware support,

is there at least a recommended upgrade path?   If I wanted to buy something

like a 603xh with the longest potential firmware support, what should I look at?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers.
