@proswing, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP LaserJet MFP M236dw's easy start process is taking a long time to check for software needs, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Ensure Compatibility
Minimum system requirements

Microsoft® Windows® 10, 8.1, 8, 2 GB available hard disk space, Internet connection, Microsoft® Internet Explorer. Apple® macOS v10.14 Mojave, macOS v10.15 Catalina, macOS v11 Big Sur; 2 GB HD; Internet required

2. Update Drivers Manually

You can manually download and install the latest software and drivers for your printer from the official HP website. Here's how:

3. Use HP Support Assistant

Use the HP Support Assistant tool to detect and install updates automatically. If the assistant is not installed, you can download it here.

4. Check Internet Connection

Ensure that your internet connection is stable and fast. The easy start process may take longer if your network connection is slow or unstable.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
