After updating HP software on my Apple M4 in October 2025, I am unable to use the new software. Receiving this message. Enable Local Network permissions for the HP App. In the Privacy and Security setting, HP is giving permissions to Bluetooth, Local Network, and Full Disk Access

Have rebooted the computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software.

I am updated to the latest iOS 15.6.1.

What diagnostic test can I run to understand and resolve this issue?

Please do not send a "canned response" telling me to take all the actions I have already taken. I am really looking for assistance.

The printer works with other applications such as Microsoft Word.

Hi @JayRoswell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing your experience so clearly. I can feel the frustration behind your words, especially when you’ve already taken all the right steps and still find yourself stuck. Let’s walk through this together with care and precision.

The Issue: HP App on macOS 15.0 Sequoia

After updating the HP app on your Apple M4 Mac, you're seeing a message asking to enable Local Network permissions, even though you've already granted Bluetooth, Local Network, and Full Disk Access in System Settings > Privacy & Security. The printer works with other apps like Word, so we know the connection itself is functional. The issue is isolated to the HP app.

What You Can Do Next (Beyond What You’ve Tried)

1. Run HP’s Built-in Diagnostic Tool: Diagnose & Fix

HP has a tool built into the HP app that can scan for app-level issues, including permission conflicts and network access problems.

Here’s how to use it: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site

  • Open the HP app.
  • Click your printer name.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix from the menu.
  • Click Start and let it run. Don’t close the app during this process.
  • Follow any on-screen instructions after the scan completes.

🔗 Use Diagnose & Fix in the HP app to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support

2. Update the HP App to the Latest Version

To update:

  • Open the Mac App Store.
  • Search for HP Smart.
  • Click Update (or Open if already updated).

🔗 HP printer setup (HP app) | HP® Support

3. Double-Check Local Network Permissions

Even if permissions appear enabled, macOS sometimes requires a manual refresh:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Toggle HP Smart off and then back on.
  • Restart your Mac again.

This can help macOS re-register the app’s network access.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello Vikram,

I got the same message:  Enable Local Network permissions for the HP App.  I have toggled it on and off, and restarted my Mac.  The app will NOT even open.  I can't do anything in the HP settings because it won't open.  I can print, however.  The problem is in the App, not the printer, and not the network.

Vikram, please review both my problem and your solution. The problem is, "I can not open the HP, because it keeps demanding access to my local network." That access has been granted. The HP application will NOT open!!!!!

So, a suggested solution that starts with "Open the HP app" is a non-starter.

Rather than trying to "fix" this problem, I can get a link to install the older HP Smart App. Everything was working with that app. The update to the new version of the HP was the start of my problems.

As with the other user on this ticket, I can print. The problem is with the new version of the HP app. Please give more attention to your solution.
