Hello. Seem to be in an endless loop. Applies to installation CD and new drivers downloaded from 123.

The basic installation reaches a point of connecting to a new printer. This is on a wired (home) network with a single segment on the IP4192.168.0.xxx range a DHCP server is the same as the gateway. The "Network check" finds the printer quickly listed with Model name, IP and MAC address. Highlighted the "Next button selected" and this leads to an Unsuccessful Network Installation" - Retry loop.

The Search Solution dialoge leads back to the same position.

HP Scan and Print Doctor again finds the product and goes through an uninstall / restart / reinstall. It suggest taht I should check that the Services "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" should be present. They are not (Local - Extended Tab). Any ideas?

I recommend you to follow below steps to check.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

Hi
Im a bit mystified by this response. USB means I have to move the printer around to each workstation (which are networked - but fixed). Is that really what you mean?

Interesting. printui.exe does not exist under XP. I can use rundll32 to achieve this. Also checked the registry. No HP printers under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\Printers.
