HP 3830

When I reinstalled the printer it only gives me the option for HP 3830 print scan fax (fax).
I don't need the fax option, but when I follow the installation prompts it only gives me the fax drive.
I'm able to print the test page and fax report, so I know they are connected.

@Shar02, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like the printer is getting installed with the "fax" functionality enabled by default, which might be causing the issue where you're not seeing the full set of options, like scanning. However, since you can print the test page and fax report, it’s definitely connected—just not showing the right drivers for full functionality.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this:

Remove the Printer:

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Printers & Scanners on Windows 10/11).

Right-click on the HP 3830 printer and choose Remove device.

Uninstall HP Software:

Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Find any HP-related software) and uninstall it.

Reinstall Printer:
After removing everything, reinstall the latest printer driver from the HP website:

Go to HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support and download the full driver package for your specific operating system (Windows or Mac).

Manually Add the Printer in Windows:

Sometimes, Windows might default to installing a generic fax driver, especially if the automatic installation doesn’t work properly.

Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Click on Add a printer or scanner.

If your printer is listed, select it and click Add device. If it’s still showing only the fax driver, click on The printer that I want isn’t listed.

Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then select HP 3830 from the list of printers and follow the prompts.

HP Smart App:

You can also use the HP Smart app (available on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices). This app often has more flexibility and might offer a more seamless connection between your printer and computer:

Download the HP Smart app from this link - HP Smart and install it.

The app should auto-detect your printer and give you the option to install the necessary drivers for scanning, printing, and other features.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
