Example: Pavilion 6530Envy 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to get an Envy 4500 to work via USB connection only.  Printer shows up in hardware, software is in place, yet printer is shown as "offline" and print requests go nowhere - nothing in the queue. Have restarted, unistalled/re-installed many, many times,  What's the deal?  How do you get the printer onlone?

Oh, firmware had been updated and re-updated many, many times, as was all the drivers.

Know what finally worked?

This, suggested by an independent tech:

1. disconnect power completely from the printer.

2. while the printer is disconnected from all power, press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds.

On powering back up, it instantly worked.  Seems to be some sort of secret, undisclosed "reset" routine from HP.

Hi @wtm4,

I'd like to help!

Try updating the printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Try the below suggestions-

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the computer and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended.

Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your computer. Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the computer? If yes, disable the same for time being.

You may check if the printer shows up in device manager -

Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then click Properties.

Click the Device Manager tab. If your drivers are correctly installed, HP USB Printer Devices should appear in the Device Manager menu.

 Also,

Set up a USB printer connection (Windows)

Download the HP Smart app, and then follow the instructions to set up a USB connection in Windows.

  1. If you already connected the printer USB cable to your computer, disconnect it, and then remove the printer from your computer.

Search for and open Printers & scanners, and then select the name of your printer from the list. Click Remove device, click Yes, and then restart the computer.

  2. Make sure an open USB port is available on your computer. Do not connect the printer to a USB hub or docking station as the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  3. Go to HP Smart - Microsoft Store and install the HP Smart app.

  4. Open the app, and then follow the guided installation to complete the setup. If the setup does not begin automatically, click the Plus sign to add your printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
