The previous solution already posted for someone with a similar problem did not solve my HP Envy 4500 connection problem. I no longer have the USB cord for the printer, so I can only connect wirelessly. I went through all the instructions here, cleaning out the previous software program, downloading a new file, trying to connect the software wirelessly, but the software did not 'find' my network, even though my printer is connected to my wireless network. I have tried many times! So I have a connected printer and a connected laptop, but no software to connect the printer to my laptop. I'm on the same banded home network. [BTW, I've noticed for several months that the HP Envy 4500 printer shows up in my Network Places, for some reason and with a yellow "!" mark. I don't know why I'm seeing that, as I certainly didn't use to see it in my available networks.]
I've deleted all HP software/drivers/temp folders, as instructed. I downloaded from the link you gave here. Twice I went through all of this. Not successful. I've restarted my laptop many times; restarted my HP printer many times; restarted the printer's wireless network many times. Everything is live and working except for the connection between my laptop print job and my printer. What can I do to turn my printer back to functioning? It has worked fine for several years until now. Same network, same everything. This printer is connected to my network; my computer is connected to the same network & band, but the software can't find the printer. I've put in the IP address and the Hostname countless times. Can't find it. Is it useless now?

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.
I understand you are in need of support,
I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes before the issue started?
Have you checked the router network settings as this printer support only 2.4GHz. If your router support 5GHz then you would need to change it to 2.4GHz and try.
Have you tried to change the frequency on the printer - either 1, 6, 11 or vice-versa
Is the wireless light steady blue or blinking.
Have you tried to run HP Print and Scan doctor?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:
Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.
Wait for 2-3 minutes.
Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.
Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.
Then turn on the PC and other devices.
If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
If the wireless light is blinking and not connected. I would suggest here is to restore the printer to the network defaults. Once done, run the wireless setup wizard and connect the printer to the network.
To restore the printer to the original network settings
1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status
menu.
2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless
Settings menu.
3. Select Restore Defaults.
4. Confirm selection to restore defaults.
Now print the network configuration page on the printer:
1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status
menu.
2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless
Settings menu.
3. Select Print Report, and then select Configuration Page.
Now once done, Run the wireless setup wizard on the printer to connect to the network:
1. Press the Wireless button from the printer control panel, and then select Settings.
2. Scroll to select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press OK.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the wireless connection.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers.
- Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
- Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
- Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
- Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Please Click here to download and install the software.
- In the connection type window, select “Wireless” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
