Microsoft Windows 11

I used my printer a day or two ago, but when I went to use it today, the screen was lit but it would otherwise not reply. Things I've tried:

* Power off for several hours, power back on. No results.

* Follow the "hard reset" instructions: Lift lid, press and hold power + Wifi button for 30 seconds. No results.

* Open the HP Smart App, try to connect to the printer (so I could maybe update the firmware). App says printer is Offline, so no results.

I'm out of ideas. I assume the printer is bricked and will go in the trash, but let me know if you have a suggestion.

If the screen is blank there's something wrong.

If the power cable has an AC to DC transformer,  you might check to see if the DC voltage is correct.  Most cheap battery testers have cables for testing DC voltage.  If the adapter is rated at 19.5v you might see 24v on it and the voltage would drop to 18-19 when connected to the printer.  To measure the voltage when connected you would have to get access to the internal circuit.

Another good test is just to connect the USB cable up and see if it will print.

if it doesn't print with USB then it's no good.

Watch the reset video and try Wi-Fi direct to avoid using the router.

Wi-Fi Direct setup video using smartphone and Hp Smart. The printer uses only the 2.4 GHZ band so all systems need to be on the 2.4 if you use Wi-Fi direct. This is useful if there is no modem or you do not want to give someone access to your modem but you want to let them print something.
Wi-Fi direct is explained on page 37 of this User Manual

Wi-Fi reset video using control panel

Network setup video connect to modem or routers. This is the normal network setup.

WPS or push button PIN setup is explained here. This is useful if no smartphone or a problem using HP Smart.

Thanks! I think I'm unable to change the network settings for the following reasons:

The screen of the printer is lit, but blank. The home/wifi buttons etc are not lit.

I installed the HP Smart App on my tablet, but it can't find the printer on my network. I got the printer's IP address from my PC (10.0.0.254 according to the Devices -> Properties -> Web Services info), but the Smart App isn't able to find it there (Unable to Connect -- This device cannot connect to the printer...)

I'm surprised to report that firmly plugging in the power cable (it doesn't have a transformer, fwiw) was enough to completely clear up the problem. I've unplugged and plugged it back in several times while I was troubleshooting, but somehow never got it quite all the way in.

Embarrassing, but I'm glad to have it sorted out. Thanks much for the help!

Thanks for explaining, and don't feel alone.  I've done similar things.
