HP Envy 4524
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I've just upgraded my laptop to a new HP pavilion and am running windows 10. Since the upgrade, I was able to print to my existing Envy 4524 once in colour, but since then everything has reverted black and white. When printing from the web, a colour option is available, but still the printout is black and white. When printing from Word (365) there are no colour/B&W options, and everything is B&W. I've deleted and reinstalled drivers, and, following a suggestion on this forum, installed a driver for windows 7. Once again, I was able to print once in colour before everything reverted to black and white without my changing any settings what-so-ever. VERY frustrating. I understand that there are compatibility issues between the Envy driver software and Windows 10. If anyone can offer a fix that lasts for more than one print out I'd be very grateful!

TIA

Hi @BLAC_

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Please try adding the printer using TCP/ IP port -

1.) Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.) Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.) Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.) Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.) Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6.) Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.) Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8.) Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for the reply. This works until I change any of the quality settings eg, to "best" or to photo paper, then it all reverts to black and white again until I reinstall the drivers.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Let me know if this helps.
