Hi,

 

All of a sudden my printer has stopped printing in colour. The options to select colour or grayscale are no longer visible in the printer properties window and so all documents are printing in black and white. The copier still copies in colour and the test page prints in colour. I have searched old forum queries and found the advice below, which I followed and it worked once afterwards, successfully printing a document in colour using the Quick Print option, but when I tried to change the printer settings to print a photo (changing the paper and print quality) it reverted back to printing in black and white and restarting the printer and the laptop have not fixed the issue. I have spent about 3 days on this and copious amounts of photo paper has been wasted trying to correct the problem (not to mention the hair I have pulled out  in the process!). Please can somebody help to resolve this otherwise I will have to get rid of the HP printer and buy another make!!

If it copies correctly then try these steps if the OS is windows:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top. 
  • Click on print server properties. 
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box, 
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again. 

Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.com/drivers   and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Please try adding the printer using TCP/ IP port - 

 

1.) Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.) Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.) Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.) Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.) Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6.) Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.) Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel. 

8.) Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.
