Hi! @Márcio, Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand you would like to know if you can use your printer in single-cartridge mode.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?
As you mentioned you would like to know if you can use your printer in single-cartridge mode.
I have checked the printer specifications and yes you can use the printer in single-cartridge mode.
Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP ENVY 5000 series with only one ink cartridge. The single cartridge
mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage. During single-cartridge
mode, the printer can copy documents, copy photos, and print jobs from the computer.
NOTE: When the HP ENVY 5000 series operates in a single-cartridge mode, a message is displayed on the
printer display. If the message is displayed and two ink cartridges are installed in the printer, verify that the
protective piece of plastic tape has been removed from each ink cartridge. When the plastic tape covers the ink
cartridge contacts, the printer cannot detect that the ink cartridge is installed.
Try the steps recommended below to print in grayscale.
-
On your computer, search Windows for Devices and Printers.
-
Right-click your printer, and then select Printing Preferences from the drop-down list.
-
Select your printer again, and then click the Paper/Quality or Features tab, depending on your software.
-
To print using only the black ink cartridge, change one of the following settings depending on what displays.
-
Click Advanced, click Print in Grayscale, and then select Black Ink Only.
-
Click the Black & White button.
NOTE:
To use even less black ink at a lower quality, select the Draft quality setting when available.
-
-
To print high quality black & white documents or photos, change one of the following settings depending on what displays.
-
Click Advanced, click Print in Grayscale, and then select Print in Grayscale or High Quality Grayscale.
-
Click Print in Grayscale, and then select High Quality Grayscale.
NOTE:
The printer uses a mix of black and color inks to produce a high quality black printout.
-
-
-
Click OK to complete the change.
NOTE:
When you want to print in color again, open the Printer Preferences window, and then select Color or turn off the black ink only or grayscale setting.
