HP-Envy 5541
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have an Envy 5541 which is utterly infuriating! It is connected to two computers and will on occassions work adequately BUT if anything needs changing e.g. paper needs adding to the tray we loose printing facilties completely. Right now it is claiming it is 'Out of Paper' this is clearly not the case but no matter what I try it insists it has no paper in the tray. I have turned everything off and started again - still no success!

I am at the end of my tether....my children need to print work for school before tomorrow morning and i have no answer to this rather petulant printer.

Help needed urgently

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 5541 Printer. I understand that you are getting "Out of Paper" error message and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

       NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer,

Check the paper, and then reload it.

Adjust the paper settings in the print driver.

Clean the paper feed and pick rollers.

Click here and refer the document to perform above steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
