HP ENVY 5545 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So after the glorious windows update which zapped all usb connections to printers I deinstalled and reinstalled my envy 5545.

I just can't get it to install on usb, but I can connect to it in the network.   And the installation seemed to go fine (using Full_Webpack-40.15.1230-EN5540_Full_Webpack but when I try to use the photo tray it says there isn't one.  Even though, there is one of course, and HP Smart also sees it.  Tries using an older driver pack but no joy.

In fact I now see the installed driver is "Microsoft IPP Class Driver"

while I am about it I cannot delete the old instance (HP Envy 5540 series - usb connected), which says "Driver is unavailable.   I see Device USB\VID_03F0&PID_CE11&MI_00\7&2da91262&2&c000 requires further installation..  I click Remove Device and some time later I get "Cannot remove this device while it is in use".  Tried restarting, same thing

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Let me know if this helps.

I've had this printer for a few years.  It's my favourite ever printer, prints great photos, I have it with instant ink, I have recommended it to other people.

BUT

I simply can't get the correct driver installed.
I've uninstalled it, I have manually deleted the remaining files in C:\Program Files\HP\HP ENVY 5540 series.  I have tried installing using windows drivers, HP smart, Easy start, Full driver set and yet no way can I get the correct printer driver to install.  It always has shows one input tray, never the 6x4 photo tray.
What more can I do?

Further development.  I spent hours going through the registry deleting everything that might pertain to the printer.  I then ran the old install program, hp5540_Full_WebPack_1119.      It told me it was installing the BASIC driver, I don't know why, and yes same thing, only one input tray, no photo paper tray.  What do I have to do to make it install the full driver?

Do you've any other device where you can try installing the drivers?
