Envy 7640 all in one printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On occassion the wireless setup has worked. However, everytime there is a Windows update or the DSL router is rebooted the printer converts to fax only or is not found at all.  In 20+ years of IT I have never found such an haphazard bit of functionality.  Downloaded latest software for the printer from HP (Full version),  uninstalled all HP printer software, ran register eval and cleaned all references to HP printer.  Rebooted PC and printer.  Using the setup window on the PC I have reset wireless to defaults and then configured for my local network on wireless option.  It finds an IP on the local network.

When I ran full install it initially finds the device at the correct IP and then flat out fails to install.  Have shut off firewall and virus protection.  Good Lord!  I cannot believe HP cannot do a better job than this!!!

This is hilarious.  Here's how it works.  Give up on HP Envy 7640 software.  Best one can say is that is is lame.  Using Windows 10 ability to locate a networked device and add it.  After days of struggling with really poorly written software that is all it took!!
