Worked for me too, thanks

Old guy.

Great, good to know

Same "simple" solution worked for me as well.  Thank you SO much for posting.

Great. I'm glad it worked for you too.

Unfortunately, this solution hasn't worked for me (My computer 'knew' my printer); so no unknown printer to delete). But like one of the people above, my printer seems to be working OK without the update, so does it matter? My biggest worry (not being that good at computer probs etc) would be that if I had managed to complete the update, would it remove my settings so I would need to get someone in to reconfigure the woreless printing etc. Would such  an update give me this problem?

NOTE: somehow I got automatically upgraded to Windows 10  (when I kept delaying it); since then my keyboard doesn't work properly: The the spacer bar jumps more than 1 space,  so I constantly  have to review  the  text and take them out...very  tiresome! I know this is not an HP problem (I have a Dell Latitude E6540 (= intel i-7 - fantastically fast; definitely worth it!), but can anyone help with that? If this is inappropriate for this site, I apologise.

Removing the "Unknown Printer" via Device Manager worked for me. The effect was immediate... no more Windows Update errors.

Since making the comment, I tried updating again, and this time it worked (no  rerror message)..and afterwards, most importantly, my printer did too! So somehow it righted itself

It worked for me, too!

Settings -> Devices -> Connected Devices -> [Scroll to bottom] -> Printers -> [Delete unknown printer]

Check for updates again, and that update will be gone...

Thank's for that Bev_n; it was good of you to provide exact instructions, it now seems this update is not required, probebly already installed :Surprise:

Kind regards to you:smileyhappy:

Please remove the response from 08-03-2015 04:49 AM.  I followed those instructions and deleted the unknown printer as recommended.  Now my printer no longer works.  That was terrible advice.  Terrible to leave it sitting on your website for 6 months.
