When I am printing a document from the internet (using Firefox) or printing a document created in LibreOffice I cannot access printer properties.
When I click on the Properties... dialogue box I get this error message
Function address 0x5990260c caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.
The function address name will differ from instance to instance.
This problem has just started today and I did update LibreOffice software yesterday. That is likely the culprit but I was upgrading from a very old version and rolling back isn't really an option.
Also, the upgrade may have just bumped into an existing problem as I cannot access properties when printing internet documents either.
If printing a PDF file (using Adobe Reader) I can access the printer properties, or i If I send the LibreOffice document or the internet document to the queue I can access and adjust properties from there.
I have tried to follow other advice found on here in HP Customer Support Forums re uninstalling and reinstalling the printer along with printer software and drivers, but nothing has worked so far.
There must be something I'm missing. Am I not properly cleaning out the old printer driver and software?

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Let's start off by running Windows update troubleshooter:
Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Now run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
I suggest you uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:
- Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
- Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
- Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and OK - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
- Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Please click here to download and install the full feature software for this printer.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Let me know how it goes!

Hi Jeet
First of all, thank you very much for your help. Very much appreciated.
So good to get clear instructions to resolve this specific problem.
I followed your instructions in order.
The key to the fix was near the end when I deleted the LaserJet folders in “c:/programdata”.
While doing that I noticed another folder "Windows c:/LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution" directly under C: prompt, not in “c:/programdata”. I deleted that folder as well.
I downloaded the new software, but after the software was extracted, it did not proceed with onscreen instructions.
I looked in the Windows C: folder again and the newly downloaded software extracted there!
"Windows c:/LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution"
I then clicked on HpSetup in that folder and the installation process with on screen instructions started.
Rebooted and tried printing a LibreOffice file and was able to change the print properties again! Same with a document from internet (using Firefox). Problem solved!
In hindsight, I tried deleting and downloading new software with drivers the other day but, like this morning, the new software was extracting but not proceeding further. When I would plug the USB back into the printer the system was reverting back to the old software and drivers.
The key was that today I made sure the old software was actually gone from the computer and used the "HpSetup.exe" that resided in the new software folder.
Thanks again for your help and clear instructions,
Paul
