Hi @grulu,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Restart Your Computer:
- Sometimes a simple restart can clear temporary issues.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any issues automatically.
Clean the System Before Installation:
- Uninstall Previous Software:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Find the HP Officejet Pro 8600 software and uninstall it.
- Remove HP Folders and Files:
- Delete the HP printer folder located in C:\Program Files\HP or C:\Program Files (x86)\HP.
- Open File Explorer, type %temp% in the address bar, and delete all temporary files in the folder.
- Clean Registry: (Skip if unfamiliar):
- Use a tool like CCleaner to clean up registry entries that might be causing conflicts (optional and for advanced users).
Download Latest Drivers and Software:
- Visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your printer model HP Officejet Pro 8600.
- Select your operating system version and download the latest full feature software and drivers.
Disable Startup Programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and disable any unnecessary startup programs that might conflict with the installation.
Run Installation as Administrator:
- Right-click the downloaded software file and select Run as administrator to ensure it has all necessary permissions.
Check Windows Update:
- Ensure your system is updated with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes printer software issues are resolved by a critical update from Windows.
Troubleshoot Compatibility:
- If the issue persists, right-click the installation file, go to Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and run the program in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.
I hope this helps.

@Kuroi_Kenshi, I see you were interacting with @Kuroi_Kenshi however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out!
Thanks for getting back — I know how frustrating persistent errors can be, especially when you just want your scanner to work again.
Since you’ve already tried the steps shared earlier and you're still getting Error Code 50, here are a couple of additional things we can try:
1. Check Windows Services
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Look for Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
Make sure its Startup type is set to Automatic, and the service is Running.
If not, right-click > Properties > Start the service.
2. Install via Windows Built-in Drivers
Sometimes HP software clashes post-Windows updates. Try installing the printer using Windows built-in driver:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Click Add a printer or scanner > Let it search.
If it doesn't find it, click “The printer that I want isn’t listed” > Choose manually and proceed.
If this doesn’t help, please let me know your Windows version (e.g., Windows 10/11, 64-bit/32-bit). I’ll dig a little deeper from our side.

If our solution hit the spot, please click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an incredible day ahead!
