F4480 printer/scanner
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

F4480 printer: My F4480 printer ran out of paper.  Message Pop-up "Printer out of paper".  I inserted more paper but  Pop-up message "Printer out of paper" cannot be deleted.  I clicked the "X", the "OK", tried turning off, then ON the printer,  even tried control/alt/delete> task manager with no results.  Had to restart computer (Win 10/64) to eliminate message.

First time this has happened.  Any ideas?

Hi @bass1166,

I'd like to help!

To assist better -

  • What is the size, type ad weight of the paper you're using?
  • Are you able to make regular copies using the printer?
  • What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?

Try the below suggestions-

Check the paper, and then reload it

Check the paper stack for defects such as wrinkled, torn, or bent pieces that might cause a pick-up issue.

  1. Remove any paper from the paper tray.

  2. Remove any severely bent, wrinkled, or torn paper found in the stack.

  3. Check for obstructions inside the paper tray. Make sure nothing blocks the paper from engaging with the rollers.

  4. Make sure the paper stack is even on all sides.

  5. Load the stack of paper into the paper tray.

    Examples of loading paper
  6. Close or push in the paper tray.

  7. Select the correct paper size on the printer control panel or in the printer software.

Clean the paper pick rollers

Clean dirt or debris from the paper pick rollers to resolve paper feed issues.

  • Clean the paper pick rollers (top paper tray)
  • Clean the paper pick rollers (under printer)
  • Clean the paper pick rollers (inside printer)

For instructions refer to -An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The printer was out of paper…, has happened in the past with no problem. I replaced the paper, click OK on the message; just popped up again. So I turned the printer off, and back on,  message still there.  Clicking OK or even the X just popped up again and again.

I fixed the problem by turning my computer off, then restarting.  Message was gone.  Seems like a soft ware problem.  Never had this type of message in the past.   did not think of unplugging & re-plugging power.
