I have been trying to Airprint off of my iPhone and iPad and it is asking for a user name and password. I don't recall setting one up.  How can I reset the printer to factory defaults to it can act like it's fresh from the factory?

Sorry that it has taken this long for me respond back, It did not work.  Now I can not even get into the devices' HP Embedded Web Server because it is saying that the login has failed.  I have attached a screen shot of the error message.

Please advise.

Kind regards, Joshua

We would have to perform a reset on the printer to resolve this.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This looks like a hardware issue.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I have  the same issue. I bought a brand new MFP 178nw but I can't login in the web interface.

I tried using 'admin' with an empty password and all sorts of combination.

Can you provide me the instruction to do a reset of the password ?

Thanks !

The solution that they gave me did not work. I have not been able to To reset the printer to factory settings and I have not been able to contact HP support because of their timing and when I work it conflicts I’m about to just return the printer and call it a fail

is it not the buttons wifi , default ,restore ,ok?

the easiest way to access thw web interface is to type the Ipaddress directly.  But first you must have set up the printer with the local wifi of course.
