HP Laser 107w
Android 8.0 Oreo and older

From a variety of Android devices attempted, I cannot establish a connection to my HP 107 w printer. The scenario is always the same. The printer appears on the Android device, inside the Wi-Fi Direct window. After selecting, the printer reacts immediately causing the Wireless LED to start flashing. After about 2 minutes, the Wi-Fi indicator flashes briefly then disconnects. Shortly after, the printer disappears from the Android device. Why is the printer failing to connect evident by a solid and stable Wireless LED display?

I am replying to my original posting to correct an error.

I wish to correct the subject line regarding Android version on test device(s)

The Android Version(s) 9, 11, & 12 were tested on the following devices, respectively:

  • 2017 - Samsung Tab-A (10.1) with Android-9
  • 2020 -  Samsung Galaxy A10e updated to Android-11
  • 2022 - Samsung Galaxy A03 with Android-12

All devices exhibit the same ‘handshaking’ behavior actively ‘polling’ the 107w before failing to establish a Wifi Direct connection.

Therefore, I infer from the observations the problem is with the 107w printer; where, the device may need advanced configuration changes or a software installation.

I will leave one final reply to my own two prior entries.  I am not impressed with the HP publications: the lack of clear and succinct process oriented  instructions or trouble shooting for Wi-Fi Direct setup on a stand alone mobile device.

I have since managed to setup my 107w on an older HP 2000 Notebook computer running Windows 7 Home Edition.  The installation CD worked perfectly and a The TEST PAGE printed without error.

Android problems galore: I retested all of my Android devices once again.  After reading the USER Manual (.pdf), I was able to locate a small section regarding with potential remedy to my situation.  Evidently, once selecting the observed Wifi Direct Printer, which initiates printer polling and the wireless LED flashing, the user is to depress the button to establish the printer connection.  I tried the button depression connection on all three devices to no avail.  Pressing the button only induced an immediate 3-second rapid flashing sequence followed, then, by immediate disconnection.   It seems there is a wireless hand-shaking problem between Android mobile devices.  I hope someone may read my expository article and suggest how to correct this apparant WI-Fi Direct hand-shaking problem or suggest an diagnostic app that can.
