Since the (automatic) firmware upgrade in April to version 1910A, I am not able to use my non-HP cartridges anymore. I have been looking to find the previous firmware version, but can't locate it anywhere. The few links to websites with older HP firmware versions , always generate an Access Denied error.

Who has the working location for the previous firmware version for my printer?

Thanks!

Dimitri

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Unfortunately, there is no option to downgrade the firmware once the latest version is installed.
  • This firmware update does not affect the printer usage if you are using a HP ink cartridge as the printer reads the chips on the HP ink cartridges.

Please let me know if you find a solution.  I had $100+ in compatible ink cartridges that worked prior to the firmware update and now HP is apparently blocking them.  I'd like to go back in time and not do that update.

Has HP provided a solution? I work at a school and now none of the cartridges we have in stock are being accepted by the 6978 printers. These firmware updates have rendered our stock of ink unusable and we don't have the funds to be spending on an entire new stock of ink just because of an extremely unfair firmware update.

Is there now a way to downgrade the firmware, or will a new firmware update enable use of non-HP ink cartridges again? This is very unfair for your consumers.

No solution that I've seen.  Disappointing.

I have tried both HP replacement and non HP cartridges and the black ink won't print since I had the September firmware update.  I am tired of spending money on cartridges and would like HP to fix this issue.

Can you please help me get the black ink working on my printer again?  I am tired of wasting money on black cartridges.  I am ready to try a new brand.
