HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e All-in-One Printer

I just purchased a HP Office Jet Pro 8130...it works well so far however the firewall update screen won't go away even though I've selected automatic update so many times and I can't used the other features on the printer because of this.  I've done a hard reset by unplugging it but the screen is still there.  How can I fix this issue?

Hi @Daja8

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the firewall update screen on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130 is persistent and blocking access to other features, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Cancel the Update

  • If the firewall update screen allows you to cancel or exit, try doing that to see if it frees up the other features.

2. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure your printer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. A poor connection can cause update issues.

3. Update Firmware Manually

HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device to check for firmware updates:

  1. Download and install the HP Smart app if you haven't already.
  2. Open the app and add your printer.
  3. Go to the settings and check for any available firmware updates.

HP Support Website: You can also manually download the latest firmware from the HP Support website:

  1. Enter your printer model and go to the "Software and Drivers" section.
  2. Download the latest firmware and follow the instructions to install it.

4. Reset Network Settings

  • Resetting the printer's network settings can sometimes help resolve persistent update prompts:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Settings.
    2. After resetting, reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

5. Disable Firewall Temporarily

  • If you're using a network firewall (like Windows Firewall), you might try temporarily disabling it to see if that clears the prompt.

6. Factory Reset

  • If the problem persists, consider performing a factory reset on the printer:
    1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
    2. Follow the prompts to complete the reset. Note that this will erase any custom settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
