It appears the latest firmware has broken a feature we liked in our 7740. The printer is connected to a wired office network. The Auto-Off function states that it will be automatically disabled with an active network connection. I have a schedule for powering on and powering off the printer on a daily basis. This has worked flawlessly until recently and the only thing that changed was a firmware update. So now, the printer is automatically turning off every 8 hours and I have to manually turn it back on. I know minor, but still annoying. HP Chat was useless as they said I have to have a wireless connection. There is nothing about having a wireless connection in the Auto-Off, only than an active network connection, which is what we have with a wired connection. Plus, it worked this way for the last 3 months of ownership.
Any tips? I have already tried deleting the power schedule and making a new one. No luck. I have tried to reload the firmware but it won't let me as it already has the most current.

Use the following instructions to schedule the day and time for On and Off.
1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch .
2. Touch Schedule Printer 2n/2ff. ENWW HP EcoSolutions (HP and the Environment)
3. You can touch Schecule 2n/off to get to the time settings after setting one of these to ON.
4. Touch the desired option, and follow the onscreen messages to set the day and time to turn the printer off and on.
CAUTION: Always turn the printer off properly, using either Schedule off or (the Power button) located on the front left side of the printer. If you improperly turn the printer off, the print carriage might not return to the correct position, causing problems with the cartridges and print quality issues. Never turn off the printer when cartridges are missing. HP recommends that you replace any missing cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues, possible extra ink usage from the remaining cartridges, or damage to the ink system.
If the issue persists we could reset the printer to defaults.

Hi @mhwunder,
I'd like to help!
- Auto-Off is enabled when the printer is turned on, if the printer does not have network, fax or Wi-Fi Direct capability, or is not using these capabilities.
- Auto-Off is disabled when a printer’s wireless or Wi-Fi Direct capability is turned on or when a printer with fax, USB, or Ethernet network capability establishes a fax, USB, or Ethernet network connection.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for your input Jay. I stated in my original post that I had an active network connection and that the Auto-Off is supposed to auto disable itself when there is an active network. Which there is in my case.

I am glad the issue is resolved, the reset instructions are specific for every printer, and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Have a great day ahead!
