HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdn

My printer is acting up and out-right crashing while printing from android with the blue-screen B8000000 after the latest firmware update to CLRWTRXXXN002.2428A.00. It also prompts me to select a specific paper after printing from windows which it did not do before.

Can anyone provide one of the previous firmware files?

2413A or 2339A

I only have the following older firmwares.
2247A, 2208A, 2118A, 2014A and 1916A

My printer is basically unusable and 8 days out of warranty, thats an HP experience i could live without, so if someone can help, please do so!

Kind regards
Martin

Hi @MartB418,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the recent firmware update has caused significant issues with your HP MFP M479fdw printer. Here’s a structured approach to address the problem:

1. Troubleshoot the Current Firmware Issue

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Some firmware issues can be resolved with a hard reset. Consult your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a hard reset or factory reset.

Check Firmware Release Notes:

  • Look at the release notes for firmware version 2428A to understand if there are any specific changes that might be causing the issue. Sometimes, HP’s release notes or support forums provide clues about known issues or fixes.

2. Roll Back Firmware

Obtain Previous Firmware:

You mentioned needing firmware versions 2413A or 2339A. Unfortunately, HP typically doesn’t provide older firmware versions directly for public download. However, you can try the following methods to obtain them:

Install Older Firmware:

  • If you can get the older firmware files, follow these steps:
    • Download the Firmware: Save the firmware file to your computer.
    • Access Printer’s Web Interface: Enter the printer’s IP address in a web browser to access the embedded web server (EWS).
    • Update Firmware: Navigate to the firmware update section and upload the older firmware file. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

3. Update Drivers and Software

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed on your computer. Sometimes issues arise from outdated drivers rather than firmware alone.

Check HP’s Software:

  • Visit the HP Software & Drivers page and download any available updates for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hey Rachel!

Sadly this did not solve the issue, the android crashing still reliably triggers on certain PDF documents, even on older firmwares. The Windows issue got fixed after i disabled the "Less paper curvature" setting.

Is there a known issue with android printing at the moment?

Hi @MartB418,

Thank you for your response,Hi! It sounds like you're dealing with a persistent issue where printing PDFs from Android devices is causing your HP MFP M479fdw printer to crash. Here are some troubleshooting steps and considerations to help resolve or better understand the issue:

1. Update Firmware

Ensure that your printer is running the latest firmware version. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve compatibility:

Check Current Firmware Version:

  • Printer Display: Go to the printer’s menu and check the current firmware version under the Information or Settings section.

Update Firmware:

  • Download Update: Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for the HP MFP M479fdw.
  • Install Firmware: Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware. Ensure the printer is not interrupted during this process.

2. Use HP Print for Android App

The HP Smart app (formerly known as HP Print for Android) can sometimes handle print jobs better than native Android print functions:

Download and Install HP Smart App:

  • HP Smart: Download the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store.

Set Up the App:

  • Add Printer: Open the app, add your HP MFP M479fdw printer, and try printing your PDF documents through the app.

3. PDF File Format Issues

Some PDF files may have formatting or compatibility issues that cause problems during printing:

Test Different PDFs:

  • Try Other Files: Test printing different PDF files to see if the problem is specific to certain files or all PDFs.

Use PDF Readers:

  • Different App: Try using different PDF readers on your Android device (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader or Google PDF Viewer) to print the file.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
