Owning the printer HP 2723E for several years, everything was fine until the firmware was automatically upgraded. Currently, the running firmware is TCP1FN2550DR (12/2025). It doesn't accept any third-party cartridges or remanufactured HP ones anymore.
I did restart the printer, cleaned the chip and also reinstalled the printer setup, but nothing has changed.
It prompts the following message:

''A non-HP circuit was detected.

The printer firmware has blocked the indicated cartridges because they contain a non-HP circuit. This printer is intended to work only with new or remanufactured cartridges that have a new or remanufactured HP circuit. Replace the indicated cartridges to continue printing. For more information, visit www.hp.com/learn/ds.

Buy supplies''

I am in a big need to revert to the older firmware that doesn't have this restriction anymore.

I have read that maybe it's necessary to access the root level of the printer or download some ftp files...
Any recommendation is appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Omar

Hello @OmarHV, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Deskjet 2723e Color All-in-one printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

We would like to inform you that once the printer firmware is updated, it may enable dynamic security features, which allow the printer to operate only with genuine HP cartridges. This helps ensure optimal performance, print quality, and device reliability.

For the best experience and consistent results, we strongly recommend using original HP ink or toner cartridges with your printer.

At this time, we would like to gently clarify that firmware downgrade is not supported or recommended by HP. Attempting to install an older firmware version can lead to unexpected behavior, security vulnerabilities, or compatibility issues that may affect the overall performance and reliability of the printer.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.

Hi @Meghana_10
Thanks for your reply and consideration
I still need to downgrade the firmware, as I have already purchased and stored more cartridges.
I understand HP's interest in this indication, but I still believe my intention to use an HP printer with different brand cartridges is fair. Like owning a car and purchasing a second set of tyres elsewhere.
I would appreciate any help with the firmware, even if it means sacrificing other features (ink level, etc.)
Thanks one more time

Thank you so much for the update @OmarHV

We truly understand your concern and appreciate your patience in this matter.

However, HP does not recommend downgrading the printer firmware. Additionally, since the cartridges in question are not manufactured by HP, we kindly suggest reaching out to the respective cartridge manufacturer for further assistance and resolution.

They will be in the best position to guide you on compatibility and functionality with your printer.

Have a great day!
