HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm currently trying to connect a printer for a family member to a new laptop. The laptop was purchased within the last month. The printer (HP OfficeJet 5255 All-In-One) was purchased in 2019 and was used sparingly for 2 years. When turning on the printer the printer powers up and remains in a "loading" state on the screen for as long as it's plugged in. Connecting the new laptop does not change this. I have tried multiple times to power the printer down by unplugging, etc with no luck.

From what I've been able to see there was a firmware update in April 2022 that has not been installed on this printer. However, without being able to connect to the printer on a new laptop I've had no luck installing the update. The last laptop that was connected to this printer was a work laptop that has since been returned to the family member's place of employment, so to my knowledge there are no available devices that have been set up with this laptop previously that could help install the firmware update. Does anyone know of a work around? Am I off-base in how installing this firmware update works? Is the printer obsolete at this point and just needs to be replaced?

There is no walkaround. You will need to power the printer off and on hoping it gets Ready for a firmware upgrade.
