Example: Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to manually update the firmware on my HP 8610 with Version OJP8610_1910A.EXE which is listed as the latest and  was posted Jan. 26, 2021, well after I did any previous updates manually. When I run it, I get a dialog box that states; "not applicable" and the app halts. My current firmware is FDP1CN2022AR. Which is the most current? I would add that HP Smart is installed on my system but I never manually installed it. The old software still resides on the machine and has connectivity problems with the scanning feature.
I want to delete everything and make a clean install with HP Smart and want to start with the firmware.

Hi @Kick52,

I'd be happy to assist you!

I understand you would like to reinstall the printer on your computer and also update the printer firmware.

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
    • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
    • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
    • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
    • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
    • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
    • Now restart your computer again.
    • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
    • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
    • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
    • Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service

Reinstall the drivers from the Software and drivers page

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Greatly appreciate the detailed response from Jay_G24.

I am still looking for information on what is the latest firmware to figure why the firmware update app runs to halt and says "not applicable"

HP Recommended

The recent firmware version is 1910A and was released on Jan 26, 2021.

Here is a link to install it- https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8610-e-all-in-one-printer-series/...

Hope this helps!

Keep me posted!

I have noted that 1910A is the latest version posted on the website.

When I run a Printer Status Report, the firmware comes up as FDP1CN2022AR.  Do you know what version this actually signifies?

When I run the firmware update utility to install 1910A, I get a message that the update is "not applicable".

Does that message mean that 1910A is actually installed?

Is there a list from HP that identifies the previous firmware versions by file name and or "an executed name"?

I do not have that information.

Could you share an image of the screen that comes up with the error?

Let me know!

Is this because the printer is attached with a USB cord?  My wifi connection is not working now either.  Do I need to connect it with an ethernet cable?

You should be able to update the driver with the USB cable.

Seems like the printer is already up to date.

What is the error you receive when you try and print via a wireless network?

What is the status of the wireless light on the printer, steady or blinking?

Let me know!

If my current firmware is up to date, then I am just going to remove the printer from the system and re-install from scratch, hopefully eliminating all of the current problems.

If I run into additional problems, I will contact you.

Are there any tips or re-installation instructions that you can share?

Thanks.
