I'm attempting to update the firmware for a HP LaserJet Professional M1217nfw MFP printer, using a computer with OS Windows 10 (64-bit). The firmware I'm using is listed here, and is version 20200617:
The printer worked correctly after updating the drivers to the most current version. I went to update the firmware for the printer, and everything appeared to be updating ok when a dialog box popped up during the firmware update that said "HP Printer Update cannot communicate with the product. The product might have changed network settings as a result of the firmware update or it might be restarting".
It has been about 30 minutes since I attempted the firmware update. The printer's screen still says "Programming", and the green status light is blinking. Printing does not work. I know the instructions say to be patient, but this appears to be taking longer than I expected - is this a normal part of the process or do I need to roll back the firmware or reset the printer to factory settings? (and if so, how do I do that?)
Thanks!

@salto1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- Have you tried to restart the printer?
- Is the printer stuck on the same screen?
- Firmware update is required if there are any issues on the printer. You need not update the firmware if the printer is working fine.
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
If the issue persists, we may have to perform a factory reset on the printer. I have sent a private message with the steps, kindly check the same.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
